Steam Deck update adds new options and settings

Steam Deck has a brand new client update that adds new options and settings for input calibration, keyboard updates, and more. It’s the latest in a series of updates to Valve’s handheld laptop, but it’s been known to offer seemingly a wealth of controls for managing consoles and trackpads if nothing else.

In addition, the new Steam Deck update includes other quality of life improvements. For example, Steam Deck will not prompt for a known password when trying to connect to a known network. Nothing will make more Steam Decks available for purchase faster, but it will make each one available more attractive to players.

You can check out the full patch notes for the Steam Deck client update, straight from the sourceless:

Dual trackpad typing support added to the onscreen keyboard

Added on-screen keyboard game mode to desktop mode

Family Sharing status has been added to the game details page. Borrowers will see his library they are borrowing from, and lenders will see a message if their library is currently in use by the borrower.

Added a calibration and advanced settings screen with options for:

  • Adjusting dead zones for the left and right joystick
  • Adjusting the strength of touch for left and right trackpads
  • Joysticks and other sensors on external gamepads

The network connection flow has been updated to connect without re-prompting a known password

The performance of downloading library images after logging in is improved, resulting in less stuttering

The display of the “B” back button in the quick access overlay menu has been removed

Fixed on-screen keyboard input issues when connecting to public restricted WiFi gateways

Fixed an issue where Chrome would not be installed from the non-Steam section of the Library

On a larger scale, Steam Deck comes in multiple different versions with a basic version of $399 while the most expensive version is $649. The difference between them largely lies in the amount of storage and how fast the storage is mentioned. It’s available to book now on Valve’s website, but any reservations made at this point will begin shipping in October 2022 or later.
